Catherine Ringer of Les Rita Mitsouko Live · Classic Frame

Raw emotion meets stage drama in this striking black and white concert photograph of Catherine Ringer. Head thrown back, eyes closed and voice soaring, the singer arches away from the microphone with arms outstretched, her hair caught mid-flight in the stage light. A guitar neck edges into the frame, smoke drifts through the darkness, and the fine grain of the image gives every fold of her black lace dress a tactile, timeless quality. It is a picture of total surrender to the music.

The photograph was taken by Hervé Le Gall during a Les Rita Mitsouko concert in July 2007. Catherine Ringer, the voice of the celebrated French band, has long been known for her intense, theatrical presence on stage, and this image distils that energy into a single gesture. The monochrome treatment keeps the focus on movement and feeling, making it a powerful piece for lovers of French music, live performance and concert photography.
